A Little More About Me...
Over the last 15 years or so, I have had the opportunity to serve others vocationally. Although I have a diverse career background, there has been a consistent theme: helping people. I began my career in law enforcement. As a police officer, I was often the first one to arrive after a tragedy, but there were not many opportunities to build relationships and walk with people through crisis. My career in law enforcement lead to an opportunity to teach in a high school. As an educator and coach, I began to understand the value of relationships when helping others. I had the opportunity to help students through difficult times because we built a trusting relationship.
While spending time in law enforcement and education, my wife and I volunteered for a residential group home. After years of volunteering, I now work for the same organization. During this time, I have had the chance to serve young people (elementary to college age) from difficult backgrounds and their families.
I completed my degree in counseling in hopes of continuing to help individuals, couples, and families who may be going through difficult times.
Families who have grown their families through adoption and foster care have special place in my heart. As parents who have adopted (and former foster parents), we recognize some of the challenges. I hope to utilize my training in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) to help your family better understand trauma and its effects, along with some principles and techniques that may help you continue to build a trusting relationship with your child.
